Accessibility Statement

Last Reviewed: March 20, 2026

Our Commitment to Accessibility

The Unconsenting Governed is committed to ensuring that our content is accessible to the widest possible audience, including individuals with disabilities. Accountability journalism depends on public access — and public access means access for everyone.

We believe that the right to access civic information should not be limited by disability status, assistive technology, or the device someone uses to reach us. We are actively working to improve the accessibility of this site and will continue to do so on an ongoing basis.

Accessibility Standard

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with disabilities including visual, auditory, cognitive, and motor impairments.

We have not yet completed a formal third-party accessibility audit of this site. This statement reflects our current understanding of the site’s accessibility status and our commitment to improvement. We will update this statement as audits are completed and issues are addressed.

Current Accessibility Status

We are in the process of reviewing and improving accessibility across the site. Our current efforts include:

  • Using semantic HTML structure to support screen readers and assistive technologies

  • Providing descriptive text alternatives for non-text content where possible

  • Ensuring sufficient color contrast between text and background elements

  • Designing for keyboard navigation compatibility

  • Using readable font sizes and avoiding reliance on color alone to convey meaning

  • Structuring content with clear headings and logical reading order

We acknowledge that not all areas of the site may currently meet WCAG 2.1 AA standards. Known or suspected limitations are listed below as they are identified, along with the steps we are taking to address them.

Third-Party Content

This site may contain embedded content or links to third-party platforms such as podcast hosts, video players, or social media. We do not control the accessibility of third-party services and cannot guarantee that all embedded content meets WCAG 2.1 AA standards.

Where third-party content creates an accessibility barrier, we will make reasonable efforts to provide equivalent access to the same information through an accessible alternative format.
